Emotional Hijacking
Most people will be familiar with the term, “Engage brain before opening mouth.”
The phrase refers to those times when we respond instantly and at an emotional level to some outside stimulus without logically and consciously thinking about it first. If you’ve ever been on the receiving end of such an outburst perhaps you have been surprised at the intensity of the response, and if you’ve ever done it yourself you may have felt shameful and apologetic once you’ve had a chance to think about the situation properly.

According to Emotional Intelligence theory, such a reaction is called “Emotional Hijacking”, and is explained by the fact that the emotional part of our brain, and the logical part act quite independently of each other, and at different speeds.
