Ok.. I Left It!

OK,I Left It!
By Jacquelyn Hughes Mooney ©11

"It is my experience that when people say "what you see is what you get", they actually mean "I am narrow minded, rigid, smart ass and not willing to compromise, neither will I learn anything, I am all knowing and wise and I know better on every subject - take it or leave it!"....okie dokie, I will leave it"!~Ria Grobler,artist-South Africa

It was one of those morning when I arose very early, not out of fits of sleep but because I got enough sleep, so the synapses are working...

I figure I would get a jump start of several things that have to be completed by tomorrow some of which did not get accomplished yesterday due to other people not upholding their end of what they were suppose to do.

I warn you, this is not a rant. This is about leaving.

We have probably all have heard someone or even ourselves say something similar to "this is just how I am, take it or leave it"... Two things stand out ; the word "just" and "take it or leave it". The latter is said with some sense of pride or perhaps defiance as if they have now done something well. Has anyone ever thought that "just" may not be good enough? Not acceptable, minimize you? And the order to take or leave gives the invitee a choice, one that you may not like?

As in OK, I'll leave it.  What or where you are (or I) is not acceptable for me.   I would prefer not to be bothered with it.  I no longer have any expectations you will do the right thing, but refuse  to condone what  is unacceptable.  If it's working for you & apparently it must as you keep on doing it, but do I?

When it is we talking to me (my giving myself permission to minimize my awesomeness) it is a lazy co-op designed to allow me not to be awesome at least for today. Or even for a minute. It is usually F.E.A.R based (False Expectations Appearing Real). Can I do this? Can I change my health? Can I readjust my eating patterns? Can I dare to see myself as beloved & beautiful? Can I see other people as being humanely flawed as not having all the answers? That their thoughts are their own & does not necessarily reflect MY experiences or relevance? Can I disregard other people's opinion of me? Does their approval really matter as much as I have made it?

Can I be my best ally?

Can I?

Can I?

Can I?

Yes we can... It takes W.I.S.D.O.M (When I Seriously Decide On More). I cannot take credit for this, this nugget came from my son who decided (ah maturity is a wonderful thing) who decided he wanted more.

More not necessarily in a monetary way, but want more for his life, not from shrinkage from shirking what he knew he must do and working to that end.

In a number of discussion with a many a passionate people, I've come to notice (mind you this my experience) that some people are or can be  bound & intent to make ensure that his view was it... the ultimate, case closed. Take it or leave it. Some of that comes from indeed passion, a singular vision, the belief that what they say is it, take or leave it... I appreciate seeing ones active in working toward an end that their vision until they become so adament that unless you submit to ti you will be slammed .  Take it or leave it can be a wonderful suggestion to take under advisement...

So, I took it...
Then I left it...

I cite this example to say that while weighing all the "facts", passions & climate in which people become so narrow minded I/you/ we may decide that it  not worthwhile, in fact counter-productive to continue any discussion or action we may take, then we or others may flex their collective muscle & take another action. Too often women are expected to conform  too many times never daring to question, look at differently, do ably which was bad enough but  we also have to be awe struck at the "they" wisdom.

Whomever the "they" may be...

I speak to as a woman.  I do not have the feelings or thoughts of a man, so it would be presumptuous  of me to speak to that, so I will help to save you the leap of judgement (unless you've already done it) to think I am being combative or speaking about men...

I am not.

I wasn't...

But it did indeed make me think about how the "take it or leave it" mindset can adversely affect people from being their full awesomeness. If you read  any  on  others successes , the ones who have attained their goals or close to attainment, do not have the "take it or leave it" approach. There is enough flexibility & resiliency with a dash of humor as they look forward even when the misery of falling down happens.

Others, their words show more rigidity,a learned helplessness, a variation & continuation of "that's just the way I am" then wondering why the results they are looking for does not happen.

Well it won't.

Please know I am not sitting on a throne, condemning anyone about whatever approach they take. I am writing from a purely observational standpoint.   In fact, I've done it myself. Yet , I do hold up a magnifying glass

to myself frequently applying to myself peering into whether or not I am applying W.I.S.D.O.M

(When I Seriously Decide On More)...
.

I have called myself into check with kindness for all my flawed awesomness. Some days are good, others even better, some days rotten, well maybe not rotten but not where I want it to be.
(OK that are my flaws talking).

Earlier in this blog I spoke of needing to get a jump start on some things I have to get done by tomorrow some of which needed to have been finished yesterday, but because of others not upholding their end of the bargain, so when it did not happen, I have to find another plan.  Part of the plan was I left it!

I could have really grumble and rant but what good would that have done other then raised my blood pressure which would not  be good. These ones had a take it or leave it posture & one is suppose to be alright with it.

Well I'm not.   I will leave it,  care of it myself. It threw today off for me but it is necessary that I care for it. So my sense is doing what they failed to do, I discovered a side benefit burnt extra calories, gaining a little more strength, getting it done, self-gratification in  the results.  Seeing it this way will keep me from grumbling wasting precious energy on rigidity.   I leave it as I will know never to have any expectations from them to do what was right.  They indeed said "take it or leave it", so it is prudent , necessary for me  give the"take it or leave it" folks plenty of room,  not be part of my package, my team of allies.

Houston, I left the building...

There will not be an army of farm animals coming to dine at the table after the little red hen did the work. They will not get to savor the fruits of my baking the bread. They will have to go find another table.

I have P.E.A.C.E ( Positive Energy Activating Constant Elevation).

So I took it & left...

Move Along...Please!

Miranda Wu,photographer

I so dislike the term "move on". It needs an early retirement. emoticon I am only saying out loud what some others are thinking, but won't say anything because they have er, ah, ahem "moved on?

Moving on is a myth; unalterable things do indeed change us; we find ways to work with it around it or through it. We function more or less as well as we can with the things that are thrown at us.

We may regroup, we may restructure, we may even generate a new life! But I so get weary of hearing the phrase move on with usually is preceded with "get over". It is in my Top Ten words are phrases that truly needs to be gotten over!emoticon

I mean what is that we really have to "get" to "move"?

I GET move on because we got the beat, I GET we should shake our groove thing to move to better health (and because it is pure fun), I even GET why some folks like Lady Gaga

or Justin Beiber!

But why are we in such a rush when something happens to move on?

True, there are some things that honestly way too many people spend way too much time agonizing over something that really at the end of the day doesn't have anything to do with the price of tea in China. However now we have swung far too much to the other end of the pendulum with that phrase using it so indiscriminately now that people tossing it around so casually as if worrying about well lets say oh almost everything until it is beaten into being almost unrecognizable submission.

And then what?

Oh yes then we have to take "the journey". Never thought life was a journey.

Mark Gilbreath,photographer

I thought it was. uh, living!

Truly I am not putting anyone down, so please do not think I am criticizing the reader if you do indeed use these phrases.

My annoyance is in sometimes in the U.S. with people thinking "moving on" is some laudable point & by simply uttering the words, though more like hurtling them at someone, that they all of a sudden become enlighten the issue is gone and life is great!  Life is great even when there is the challenge or a temporary glitch!

There is no shame or less virtue if someone gives some honor or dignity to the suffering or the sometimes painful work that one is dealing with .  There's a distinct difference in that and wallowing in the vomit, so to speak.

No one, absolutely no one can decide for the person when/ how/ why they should go from deal with it (facing the issue)  to dealing with it  (working on it) or have dealt with it (now finished).

I submit, having a sneaky suspicion, that usually the one saying that to someone's plight whether real or imagined, is more about THEIR inability to perhaps cope (well) with whatever may be bugging THEM.  We've come up with really weird ways of feeling enpwered, more & more of using tactics to disempower others so we get a self-satisfied smugness by saying "Oh we're not like them".

Yes, someone could say that is what I am doing, but so you know...

I'm dealing with it!

I am saying can we find something else another word another phrase or something?
There are big ole dictionaries, thesaurus and the Internet where there is a wealth of words to use! I think when we reduce things to a few catch phrase, it diminishes the speaker & the hearer as if "perhaps we are to busy to really care much so let me just toss this out and that should be enough for the moment because I simply do not have the time or want to be bothered". Or have we've become such a microwaved society that we have rushed headlong into the "culture of busyness" to feel important or to drown out what is really happening?

And while we are rushing do we really accomplish much. Oh yes that's right we have to we must Multi-task as if that is a requirement or even worse a virtue and if you can't or won't something is wrong with YOU!

We talk at each other, we've reduce words down to "wl C U 2morrow tnx emoticon" with now a whole generation cannot spell any longer and depend far too much on spell check... Or now we have to use Wiii so our children can get some exercise because they have lost the ability to move on...

Make no mistake I am not saying we need the good old days, because if the truth be told the good old days weren't all that good. We see it through the scrim of time & nostalgia & selective memories but then again, I guess I can say that because...

I've moved on... emoticon

"Just ah's" Don't Know where this will grow, glow until the end...

"Every thought you produce, anything you say, any action you do, it bears your signature."~Thich Nhat Hanh

Bear with me, I do not know where I am going with this; but I am going...

I receive an email this morning from someone who raised in very apt question that I believed deserved an answer and I gave her one.  It got me to thinking about something.

Over the last several weeks I have had different friends exclaim "What has happened to us, how did we get like this"? in reference to a new or yet another tragedy, another absurdity, another  program or "news" report.  The crassness & coarseness that has been crammed down our collective psyche with increased intensity and volume has unconsciously allowed us to think or treat one another with more suspicion, cynicism and suspicion whether we want to admit it or not.  The  lowest common denominator  has shifted us culturally in ways that may be subtle, others not so subtly.

What we don't get in such shifting & the Olympian rush to judgement, criticize or assumptions is a complete true behind the scene what lead case A to its conclusion , we just rush headlong into condemning, criticizing or indicting something or someone without all the facts as if we now care for all the facts.

And sometime truth is stranger then fiction; at the end of it even if we cared enough to really know , what would it changed?

I just know that it has altered a cultural consciousness to a new low.  From the early days of  the 'inquiring minds want to know" to the sleaze of a Povich circus to outright in your face Springer tacky orgy of the lowest common denominator passing for entertainment or a host of "news" programming that mad gossip & slander way too eager to entertain us the underbelly of very surreal human drama.

Even as I am writing this NBC just announced that Mr. Ted, the man with the Golden Voice" has checked himself out of rehab after a very public "help" by Dr. Phil to aid him into working on his addictions.  I like many others truly wanted the best for him; I still want the best for him.  As many of us know who may have had family members with addiction problems, it is not an smooth easy road to rehabilitation; there is no walk off into the sunset hand in hand end for this.

But I do not know if I could handle such a public detailed scrutiny into my life; could any of us?

But my point is somewhere the collective ball has been dropped and we are not too far off from being like the days of ancient Rome where far too overly privilege folks bored out of their collective skulls, looking for the next high, the next stimulus because of boredom, deflection or whatever get entertain by watching Christians torn apart by lions for their "enjoyment".

We are like a locomotive going down hill with no breaks.

And I think we know it & either unwilling or unable to stop it; we're getting something out of it.

And it is hard, increasingly hard now to either have or gain integrity because you are not going to be believed or mocked or looked upon with suspicion understandably so. in the last few days an acquaintance of mine lost her sister in death who had the same health issue I had.  It gave me the chills because that could have been me. No one could believe as it was "just a hernia".  The" just a" on anything worried me

As I told her as we converse, that I had many who did not believe me either  because it was "just a".  Even family members, friends, acquaintance or total strangers did not.  They thought I was trying to excuse away what they thought was my getting fat not that there was a real health issue going on and as I got sicker & sicker, less & less mobile, less & less able to work, that I was just making things up, I was looking for attention, I was just lazy you name it I heard it.

Fortunately for me not everyone had been bitten with the cynical bug; if they had I might now be here today to even write this.  And I thank God for that as I may  have ran screaming into the woods or not here to scream into the woods.

As I now try to put this figurative Humpty-Dumpty back together again knowing it will take time, effort and a lot of work; harder still is to know that I can restore myself in a larger way.

One thing for sure I know is one cannot argue with a belief; people do not like being wrong and will hold onto something no matter what evidence there will be to the contrary because of not wanting to be wrong or saving face.  But that is a whole other issue & doesn't have anything to do with me.  That is their responsibility if they want to.

There have been people who made one error or even several errors turned away from them, did extraordinary lives and all it takes is some young eager beaver reporter trying to gain brownie points or make a name for themselves, to dreg back as far back in the past to Christopher Columbus to find something, anything to shade a negative life on someone.

How many of us could stand up to that scrutiny without  collapse?

I am quite sure most of us by now either saw or heard about the discovery of Oprah Winfrey's sister.  I thought it was very smart for her to tell her story before all the "just a's" broke out.  In fact within minutes of the show closing I got not one, two but three "news alerts" & speculations from news sources.  We are talking about minutes & of course it wasn't very nice.  Of course it is nothing but family business & let family take care of family business. And yes she is a very well known figure so there will be interest, but I applaud that she took to break the story herself before the "just a's" began.

Make sure to know that when I wrote about  people's redemption's that I was not speaking of major crimes against nature as in an Idi Amin or Papa Doc Duvalier of Haiti or an Adolf Hitler-like horror perpetuated on mankind, but more of the garden variety human error. And even in that garden if a person is not remorseful if they have not made any effort at correcting what they are able to do, well how one hold them accountable is up to that individual.  But still again I say without knowing all the mitigating circumstances that we may not be aware of.

Even wise King Solomon once said " Oppression can make even the wise one act stupid".  Those circumstances that we are not aware of, may indeed make a person make a decision that was not write but caught up in the oppression or circumstances they made a poor choice.

So at the end of the day what would you do?  What would I do?

Part of where I am in my life is maintaining peace in myself and in my small corner of the world.  Not unlike many others I have had more then my fair share of wrongs & injustices done to me where I am still paying for these people's actions or decisions.  They gone on with their lives blithely unconcern or unaware of what they left in their wake, while I am gasping for air and trying to stand up, to right myself because of their actions.

What it has  taught me is as the Sankofa proverb states "There is no shame to go back & correct what not done"... I just feel like we have lost something collectively or maybe we never had it but pretended that we did.  I just know right now what I can perhaps do is make peace with what I can & be what I can be right now, the best I can be right now...

Holding on hoping for those others to right it with me is an exercise in futility.  I don't know, perhaps they are like me in the sense they are trying to adjust themselves, correct themselves, right themselves, I don't know & right now it isn't my business to know.

So again I didn't know where I was going with this; I am truly writing out of my head & my heart.  The answer is there right below the surface & I await it breaking through & then I will know.

My Soul to Keep~Last Blog of 09

Jame Mokos photo

Don’t confuse your soul with your ego
~Unknown

Last blog for 2009

Its been a wild ride the last couple of weeks feeling somewhat agitated about a few things had to resolved, but anxiousness of how the other people would react, made me drag it out until I was forced, truly a case of serendipity, to do it.

And the results was not bad at all. Sky did not fall down; the earth did not open up and swallow me; the earth continued on its rhythms oblivious to my angst . It is needless to go into a litany of what was ailing me, I will generously spare you. I think I bended enough of my friends across the country with it to the point of not only wearing their ears out, but sick of hearing MY own voice.

And then it rung crystal clear today for me as this quote so aptly put it...

"Stop living life for what's around the corner and start enjoying the walk down the street.

The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny".~Unknown

It does not mean that there will be many many things or many people who will challenge you, cross you, make attempts to diminish you, but shrinking back and not being fully engaged in yourself is still YOUR (or mine) responsibility to the end.

So I did, I took the risk follow what my gut told me that I needed to do whether it was embarrassed, laughed at, questioned, criticized or even worse ignored. If what I wanted, nay needed to, do was that important, then I am woman enough to go through the thicket to get to the meadow. Or a raging storm to clear, turquoise waters.

It restoreth my soul...

Along the way you will as I did, will find some who will cheer you own. And the probability that there will be some who won't well that probablty is quite high. But at the close of the day, it will be you (or me),and you (or me) alone who have to initiate follow through, plug in dreamng so hard & so big that others might laugh at what seems to be foolishness.

And then dream some more.

Prepare for the dream to be a vision, make a plan to execute, then wait for whatever challenge will occur' cause it will as sure as the sun rises each day. And in the end exercise that faith and belief to keep on getting up when it is scary & anxious.

I struggled with my pride,my ego the last 2 weeks and had to swallow, hard, to do what I needed to do. In that internal battle, I even questioned myself if I was doing the right thing. But this was not a time for false pride nor ego or quiet as its kept,my streak of shyness. In the final analysis it indeed was about faith, about passion, about believing in the goodness of people who would see the goodness in me. And a fervent passionate belief in my own ability.

And I was not let down...

Definitely I can say I am humbled by those who care & not able to, strengthen by those who do & merciful coupled with understanding toward all others...

Robert Duvall once said
:"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil and that love true love never dies. A person should believe in these things as they are worth believing in"
So never underestimate miracle at work & from whatever it comes from...

Past the seeker as he prayed came the crippled and the beggar and the beaten. And seeing them... he cried, "Great God, how is it that a loving creator can see such things and yet do nothing about them?" God said, "I did do something. I made you." ~Author Unknown

It Dawned on me to share these words~Not of my Own

"Break" Photography by JHM ©09

Something we were withholding made us weak, until we found it was ourselves.

- Robert Frost

Who is standing in your way?

Imagine someone regularly tying small weights around your ankles as you try to climb a mountain. Doesn't sound fair, does it? But that's exactly what you can do to yourself, a little bit at a time, if you don't watch out. When you think of who and what is standing in the way of your dreams, it's easy to forget your own responsibility. Even the best of us can be guilty of unknowingly hurting our own progress. Procrastination, lateness, being disorganized, pessimism, not being honest with yourself, severe self-criticism, downplaying achievements, focusing only on weaknesses while ignoring strengths, keeping goals a secret, demanding perfection, giving up after a small setback--these are all ways you can make it tough to be (and do) your best. Smart systems, the right attitude, and a promise to keep going no matter what will make a world of difference.

Out of want~ Its the littlle things that can make a difference!

I wish I could have thought of this. Not my words, but they sure was reading my mind!

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost. For want of the shoe, the horse was lost. For want of the horse, the rider was lost. For want of the rider, the battle was lost. For want of the battle, the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail!

~ Old English rhyme

Your smallest actions add up to something big

Everything you do makes a difference. Even if you're not on the front lines leading the effort, you have a contribution to make. Without your contribution, no matter how small, so many other things would never happen. The world needs what you have to offer. You have no idea how the simplest of your everyday actions can effect your child, and even people you've never met. Chances are, you'll never know. But if you're looking for a purpose to work toward, all you need is the desire and the right perspective. Define yourself as your task, and that's all you'll ever be. Define yourself as your contribution to your family, and suddenly you're a very important part of a bigger picture. The biggest pictures are the ones where there's room for everyone to be seen.

Give Us this Day: There lies the time and space in which we live

My special and favorite time is Sunday morning. My usual ritual consisted of upon my arousal I would around 6am spend time nurturing my garden watering, feeding, weeding, plucking away dead leaves, feeling the coolness of the refreshed morning air simply enjoying the sounds lost in my thoughts.. I would then watch CBS Sunday Morning, have my breakfast, read my newspaper, listen to reruns of Girlfriends and write. Many time just a whisper of a unconsciously smiling It may not be unique for some but for me I find it interesting as once upon a time when I was till in my 20’s I dreaded, resented Sundays.

James Baldwin once said: “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced”. It took awhile & some maturing to get why I felt that way, but lets just say I do not feel that way any longer.

I am not, no matter what people may think, a political person. I am however an observer of life and human behavior in all its vastness, its simplicity and its tendency to make things far more complex then needed. . People never cease to amaze me in the things they do with capability to rise so high and then slam bam falling face first into concrete And then adding insult to injury get up and walk away as if nothing has happened trailing bits & pieces of their pride, humility, embarrassment likes so many colorful pieces of chastened confetti behind them making such a mess!

For me watching life & dynamics but staying a respectful distance sometimes shows me at the end of the day that some of the needless-ness has about as much worth as a Confederate bill in the recession. Knowing that preserving the air & energy it takes to expended is as needed as it keeps me from running screaming into the woods if one gets too caught up!

But just like my youthful intense dislike for Sunday that is long gone & reconciled when people rightly or aptly has intense response to something may be a tickling or an agitation of a long repressed or on the surface forgotten memory. And the passion that it arises is a wondrous sight to behold. That memory does not have to be a bad or painful one, though it can be, but it is amazing to see its resurfacing in ways that can indeed bring about discussion, action and ultimately change (hopefully)

I still hold to the belief when all has been said & done, people want to do the right thing, may go about it in screwy ways at times, but want to do the right thing.

Yet there are times when believing that is stretch uncomfortably.

I do feel that good hearted people still outweighs the others, but the "circle" people gets more air time. My lesson from these folks is "this is what you do not want to be & if there's a hint of it in you, eradicate it quickly”.

I am a flawed person 'tis true :=) I do not have the answers or solutions, merely an observer who still believes in miracles... And imagine I thought all of this as I sat in Autumn’s Secret Garden on this given day…

Joy to the World

Rediscover Who You Are
Read full article at:

http://www.oprah.com/article/spirit/knowyourself/ss_lybl_letgo_201

I so love this exerpt. So now I have to see my own Joy List...

Create a "What I Enjoy" List

As simple as this may sound, it is very important for you to make one. This list should include everything that brings you pleasure and passion in life.

If you aren't sure what brings you joy right now, think back to what used to bring you joy?

This may require some exploration, but what did you do when you were a little kid that brought a smile on your face? Did you used to go horseback riding? Walk outside in a garden?

Whatever it may be, write it down.

This list doesn't mean that you have to do them every day. It's just to make you aware that there are things in the world that do make you feel alive. If you are able to do something you enjoy at least once a week, do it and help yourself feel alive in that moment.

You have to behave the way you want to feel before you feel the way you are behaving! It's about opening yourself up to a new experience, or something that you stopped doing.

Try to rediscover what it feels like to look or feel differently from the "not enoughness" you have been putting into your head for a long time now.

When you start doing this you will launch yourself back into aliveness!

Now some of myJoys to the World List:

1.Travel

3. The Color Purple; Seven Pounds; The Curious Life & Times of Benjamin Button /Divine Secrets of The Ya Ya Sisterhood movies

I Hear a Symphony 4-17-08 Fit Matters

“The woman who wants to lead the orchestra must turn her back on the crowd”.James Crook

Everyone wants praise and attention for a job well done; receiving recognition is euphoria and plain old feels good. But it is not with a lot of hard work. When we hear of people who are an “overnight” success we sing their praises. Then wonder how or why I can’t do the same. We don’t realize that what seems overnight, really was years of hard work, sacrifice and determination.

But to do those things one also needs to have vision and clarity to see the realization that vision means lots of work. You have to believe even when you think about not believing. It helps to have a sense of humor, not sweat the small stuff and pay attention to your language how you speak of yourself, to yourself and to others even in humor which oftentimes is masking hurtful things with a little sweetness. In a wellness journey, so much attention is given toward what we are not doing right rather then what we are. Be still and listen to the things we berate ourselves with when we have an “oopsy”. So you went over your caloric intake by 250 calories. Ok…But does the “punishment” need to fit the “crime”? Is it necessary to even punish yourself? When did having a donut become a crime?

Why do you need someone to kick your hiney or beat up on you so you can be impelled to do something about your weight? First of all kicking your own derriere’ hurts (if it was anatomically possible) and someone else beating up on you is an assault! Shame or blame will not bring change!

If it was successful we would not have a near pandemic explosion of obesity to begin with. So why not be your own leader, remembering that you are the one conducting this orchestra and to do so means you just may have to turn your back on the crowd. The crowd being the one telling you what you cannot do rather then cheering you for what you can. Of telling you that wellness is a size 00 & until you look like a poster child for famine relief you are not an acceptable human being. Let your body aid you in what fits well. You take the lead and are in charge of this extraordinary reinvention of your life. See what it is that you want that’s in front, not what wasn’t that’s behind (you).

I read recently this here on
www.SparksPeople.com : “Recognition is good, but you lead…pay attention to the group in front of you, not the ones watching behind you. Spectators will soon forget about you, but those you led will remember” It may not be easy, but it can be done and will be because it is you who will orchestrate this time.

You are the one conducting this symphony.

How cool is that!
